On Feb 27, 1998 the lot is ready for construction.
The
paperwork was signed on March 4th and the construction did not start till
the following week. Construction started with the foundation pad
preparation. Basically the Pad for the house was leveled out.
What
seemed like an eternity but was really only a week the forms for the
foundation were laid out.
Piers
were dug next around the perimeter and along trenches which would later
become the footings for the foundations. A four foot square footing was
dug where the fireplace was to be. The plumbers went in next to lay the
roughend for water service to the house.
Along
with the water lines both hot and cold, (The hot lines were insulated)
waste
lines were also laid out. This photo is from the rear foundation wall
looking toward the front of the property.
When
the foundation was leveled we had not expected that the back corner of the
house would need to be raised as much as it needed to be. As can be seen
here the foundation was raised almost 5' at that back corner.
The
foundation guys came back and finallized the foundation forms, laid the
steel cables and rebarb in the footing trenches. A layer of sand was then
spread over the foundation and then a layer of black plastic was laid out.
While
the floor plans had described just how big the master
bedroom was going to be, we had some reservations about the size of
this room after seeing the forms laid out and even entertained making it a
foot wider. Our builder talked us out of it though and we can now say that
the extra foot was not necessary. A side note..... a strange creature
appeared on the roll of film that I used at this time. We believe this to
be the son of "BigFoot".
Well 'BigFoot' didn't damage the forms and the foundation was poured.
So
we celebrated.
It
appears that 'BigFoot' was part of the celebration. And then the rains
came. That night to be exact it poured. The only damage to the foundation
was the porches were pitted by the rain. The next day Framing started.
